What Is Google TV?

There has been much buzz around the hottest topic in town – Google TV and of manufacturers showcasing their “Google TV” devices. Do you feel lost with all this noise and end up wondering what actually is Google TV all about or what it would mean to the user as an end product and how is it different form the conventional TV or DTH you watch today?

Simply stated, Google TV brings together two technologies for you – 1. Television and 2. Internet.

The most striking and defining feature of Google TV is that it would allow you to “Search your Television” in a seamless manner. What it means is, suppose that you are watching a show – say a show on car reviews. Now, if you want to search for other similar shows that are there, you can now use Google TV to search for these shows and it would find them for you searching your TV, web, apps, etc and lets you access them with a single click – all without having to leave your Television and going to your PC to do so! You can switch from TV to Web without even having to change your input.

Here is a quick look into what all Google TV does for you besides this:

The Web Now becomes a Channel: You can actually surf the net just as you switch between channels on your TV. Now do all your favorite online stuff from social networking, mailing, posting and view pictures, etc on your TV itself.
Your Mobile becomes your Remote Control: You can use your Android phone or iPhone to control Google TV much the same way as a conventional remote control. What’s more, it allows you to use multiple mobiles for doing the same, hence you can have multiple people controlling the TV at the same time and no more fights over the remote!
Watch & Browse At the same time: You can be browsing the internet and watching your favorite show at the same time on the same screen!
“Fling” mobile content to your TV: Did you find an interesting site on your phone or want to share what you are listening to on your phone with everyone? You can now “Fling” what you are doing on your phone by sending it to your TV with a click of a button!
Your TV gets a Homepage: Just as you have a homepage on your Internet browser, you now have a Homepage for your TV showcasing not only your favorite channels but also websites, apps, podcasts, etc.
Turn your TV into a Picture Frame: Google TV allows you to stream in pictures from Picasa, Flickr or any other Photo sharing site!
Create Playlists: You can create playlists and subscribe to your favorite podcasts, YouTube videos etc

Google TV offers other features like Video On Demand and Recording Shows but they may vary based upon your location and service provider.

Whether you are planning a wedding or just love weddings, you have probably noticed that there are a ton of shows about weddings on television. It seems like another wedding show comes out every season, and there is one for every taste. Before you pick up that remote control, read this rundown on some of the most popular tv wedding shows.

If there is one wedding show that everyone has heard of, it has got to be Bridezillas. For the uninitiated, it is a show all about the horrible behavior displayed by brides who have gone off the deep end. They rant and rave, they make their bridesmaids cry, and they curse like sailors. By the end of the episode, the viewer is left wondering why on earth any man would want to marry this raging lunatic. If you are looking for a good laugh, then Bridezillas will be right up your alley.

Speaking of laughing, have you ever watched My Big Fat Redneck Wedding? It is an absolutely hilarious look at the nuptials of self-proclaimed rednecks. One of the best things about the show is that these couples are really creative, and you just never know what you are going to see next. It could be a mattress pull through the mud, a kegerator race, or even the bride and groom exchanging guns as wedding gifts. This is the one wedding show that even guys don’t mind watching.

Brides who are looking for inspiration for their weddings will find it in Whose Wedding is it Anyway?, which is a program about wedding planners and the couples that hire them. Each episode showcases two real life weddings, and they touch on all of the high points, from the gown and bridal jewelry to the dcor to custom cakes and the menu selection. This show is especially useful for a bride-to-be because it features such a wide variety of wedding styles, from a high style loft reception to destination weddings to military weddings and every other type of wedding that you can imagine. The interaction between the planners and the brides can also be a lot of fun to watch.

Another great wedding show that focuses on the planning aspects is My Fair Wedding, in which the host celebrity wedding coordinator is called in at the last minute to revamp a wedding that a bride has planned. He swoops in two weeks before the wedding, and transforms it from tacky to spectacular. It is out with the gaudy outfit, and in with the elegant bridal gown and custom crystal bridal jewelry. If you are one of those people who loves any kind of makeover show, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Anyone who loves to ooh and aah over truly spectacular weddings will adore Platinum Weddings, which is all about brides who insist on only the best for their big day. On this program, lavish and opulent are the only way to go, and it is nothing for a bride to drop $75,000 on her wedding jewelry, or for the groom to give her a $200,000 car as a wedding present. If you are looking for eye candy, you will find it on Platinum Weddings.

Many women, engaged or not, love wedding gowns. For us, there is Say Yes to the Dress, which shows what goes on in a famous New York bridal salon. The twist is that the show is done from the point of view of the consultants, as well as featuring the words of the brides shopping for their dream gown. You get to see watch a bride try on all different gowns, and hear the candid comments from her mother and friends. Best of all, if the bride purchases a gown, they will tell you what it cost (c’mon, you know you were wondering!).
